Traceability and Meats using QR Codes
After a year of scanning several edible codes and connecting our guests with fisherman through trace and trust program, we have been trying to get other local providers to develop a simple traceability program. We had the pleasure to meet Mr. Pablo Carrasco from Conexion Ganadera in Uruguay, who came over to Taranta for diner about 6 months ago, Mr. Carrasco produces 100% grass fed beef from Uruguay and I happen to have a Branding Iron with a QR code that I used to brand some tortillas and pieces of beef, during an after table conversation I explained Mr. Carrasco what we were doing with traceability with the fisherman, he became very interested in QR Codes and I told him that it will be great if we could trace our meat to the source, I gave him the branding iron as a gift and now Del Terruno meats can be traced to the source with a simple scan at a consumer level. They are planning on producing all meats with QR traceability, now Chefs, and Consumers at a Table can scan a code and see all the info about the piece of meat they are consuming. This makes us feel incredibly happy as we can probe that all the efforts and time we spent to creating ideas to make people aware of how important is to know where you food comes from.
